The Right Kind of Dog

These are beautiful, subtle poems-sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always thought-provoking. They talk about the things that young people struggle with: rejection, learning to find their feet, trying to fit in and being forced to conform.

Written in Adil Jussawalla’s terse and sharp style, with stunning and suggestive illustrations by Ahlawat Gunjan, this is a book for those who value beauty in words and visuals.

Known Knowns is an ode to the everyday. It adopts the traditional book design guidelines, through precise typography, luxu-riant layout, imaging, serious binding, paper selection and a whole host of conventions of traditional book design.

No matter how well they may be documented, timeless objects come with mysterious histories, pasts, stories. Known Unknowns acknowledges the familiar in the strange, the recognizable in all that is alien. The book, as an object, becomes subversive.

This book is an offering of infinite possibilities: a book unbound, a collection of ideas, but seemingly dissociated concepts. Borrowing from the potent symbol of literature, the well thought out framework of the letter-press tray transports us backwards. The idea and logic is simple. The democracy of images and text that constitute Unknown Unknowns allows for an endless number of journeys between them.

The path of making meaning between one point and the next is unpredictable and unfathomable; it is a path that is facilitated by the maker of this book, but one that cannot be controlled. In “reading” this book and parsing through its contents, it is up to you, the reader, to construct a meaningful experience for yourself.
